We were not surprised when Lonely Planet named St. Lucia in their top 10 travel destinations for 2015. The island of St. Lucia is part of the lesser Antilles in the Caribbean, and is located north/northeast of the island of Saint Vincent, northwest of Barbados and south of Martinique.
This beautiful island is one of the most mountainous in the Caribbean, and so features a unique, rugged landscape and lush rain forests, as well as the famous twin peak mountains known as the Pitons (a World Heritage Site).
St. Lucia has plenty to offer to travelers, and yet it is still not overcrowded with tourists. The popularity of ‘private villas’ over large-scale resorts also helps it maintain the feeling of tranquility and privacy. It might not be your typical beach destination but the choice is yours for scuba diving, zip-lining, hiking, horseback riding and exploring the local culture. Other popular attractions are the drive-in volcano, the beautiful botancial Gardens, as well as Marigot Bay and Pigeon Island National Park.
