Rain Forest Walk - Descartiers Trail / Suggested Day(s): Wednesday or Friday
Experience a true slice of our ecological system by taking part in this excursion. A guided ride
along the wild eastern coast of St Lucia takes you to the forest by Mahaut, where a Forestry Guide
leads you deep into St. Lucia's interior. See orchids and bromeliads growing from the massive
trunks of ancient trees, hear the warbler's melodic call and the parrot's startled squawk and
smell the perfumed bark of the L'Encens tree. A unique opportunity to travel through St. Lucia's
treasured countryside. At the end of your walk, enjoy a picnic lunch in the natural atmosphere
of the rain forest. Walk is about 2-½ hours round trip.
Rates: US$75 per person. Child under 12, US$50.
Rain Forest Jeep Safari / Suggested Day(s): Friday or Saturday
A scenic journey by open-topped ex-army jeep (stock with cold drinks) will bring you to the
western forests of Fond St. Jacques. Embarking on an exhilarating one hour hike (downhill all the way!)
keep a lookout for rare parrots while your St. Lucian Forestry Guide points out vanilla vines,
Bois Pain Marron, heliconias, and other fascinating flora and fauna. Relax and bathe at a beautiful
waterfall and natural pool before heading uphill by a different trail to take the jeep to the
coast for a well-deserved buffet lunch. Walk is about 2 hours round trip.
Rates: US$85 per person. Child under 12, US$55. Also available on Thursday.
Details: Both tours are for the physically fit. Departure from the Green Parrot Hotel. Proper
walking shoes are a must. For your comfort and safety whilst on the jeep, seat belts should be
worn at all times.
